9 brushes · 21 shapes · 7 save formats
A classic bitmap editor in a browser tab: draw, fill, select, cut, copy, paste, resize and save. No sign-up, no upload, nothing to install.

Nine brushes and a crisp pencil
Brush, two calligraphy nibs, airbrush, oil, crayon, marker, natural pencil and watercolor, all on one size control. The pencil draws single-color pixels with no smoothing. A pen's pressure changes the stroke width.
size 1–100 px · pen pressure · right-click draws Color 2
Shapes with real outline and fill styles
21 preset shapes plus line and curve. Outline and fill each take solid color, crayon, marker, oil, natural pencil or watercolor. Drag a shape's handles, or the shape itself, before you place it.
Shift: squares, circles, 45° lines
Select, move, copy, stretch
Rectangular or free-form. Drag to move, hold Ctrl or Option to drag a copy, hold Shift to leave a trail, pull a handle to stretch. Make a color see-through, invert the selection, or crop to it.
cut · copy · paste · paste from file
Resize, skew, rotate, flip
Scale by percent or pixels, skew by degrees, turn in quarter steps, mirror either way, invert colors, or go grayscale, black and white or sepia. Each applies to the selection, or to the whole picture when nothing is selected.
one undo step per action
Zoom until pixels are squares
12.5% to 800%, a pixel grid from 400%, rulers, a status bar with the pointer position and the selection size, and a full-window preview. Hold Space and drag, or use two fingers, to pan.

Open and save the usual formats
Open PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WebP or SVG, paste an image from the clipboard, or drop a file on the canvas. Save PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP, GIF, TIFF or PDF. Every file is built in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

If you know classic Paint, you already know this
The tools keep their names and their behavior, including the quirks: the right button draws with the second color, and a new shape takes its outline from Color 1 and its fill from Color 2.

Good to know before you start
- Your picture lives in the tab. Nothing is saved automatically, so save before you close it. Closing a tab with unsaved changes asks first.
- There are no layers in Paint mode. For layers, use the 2D mode, which edits vector objects. Switching modes keeps your Paint picture.
- The AI Copilot belongs to the 2D mode and is hidden in Paint.
- The largest picture is 8,192 px on a side and 16 megapixels, and undo keeps up to 100 steps.
- What you can open depends on what your browser can decode. PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WebP and SVG open in current browsers; TIFF opens in Safari only. Saving WebP needs a browser that can encode it, so use PNG or JPEG if yours cannot.
Questions
- Is there a free online Paint that works in the browser?
- Yes. Paint mode in MSRX CanvasIQ is a free bitmap editor that runs in any modern browser. It has a pencil, nine brushes, shapes, text, flood fill, selections with cut, copy and paste, resize and rotate, and opens and saves common image formats. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
- Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
- No. Drawing, editing and saving all happen in your browser, and the picture is never sent to a server. MSRX CanvasIQ has no accounts and stores nothing about your work, so Paint also works in a private or Incognito window. Your picture is held in memory only while the tab is open, so save it before you close the tab.
- Can I open an existing image, or paste one from my clipboard?
- Yes. Use Open to load a PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WebP or SVG file, drag an image onto the canvas, or press Ctrl or Cmd plus V to paste an image from your clipboard. Pasted and dropped images arrive as a floating selection that you can move, stretch and flip before placing it.
- Which file formats can I save?
- PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP, GIF, TIFF and PDF. PNG, WebP, GIF and TIFF keep transparency. JPEG and BMP are flattened onto white. JPEG and WebP have a quality slider. Every file is created in your browser.
- Does Paint work on a phone, a tablet or with a stylus?
- Yes. It supports touch drawing, two-finger pinch to zoom and pan, and pen pressure on styluses that report it. On a phone the first blank page is portrait. The toolbar scrolls sideways so every tool stays reachable.
- How is Paint mode different from the 2D mode?
- Paint mode edits pixels, like a classic Paint program: strokes become part of the picture and are changed with selections, undo and image tools. The 2D mode edits vector objects on layers that stay individually editable, and it has the AI Copilot. Switching between modes does not lose your Paint picture.
- Is MSRX CanvasIQ affiliated with Microsoft?
- No. MSRX CanvasIQ is an independent product from MSRX. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft. Microsoft Paint and Windows are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation, and are named here only to describe what kind of tool Paint mode is.
